It had recently occurred to me that I’m not as much of a girlie girl as others may perceive me as. Yeah I have a squeaky voice and a lot of stuff I own coincidentally happens to be pink (which is true) but there is one thing I have never learned to do so I can become the fully fledge girlie girl I know I can be. I need to learn how to apply makeup. Over the past few years, I have purchased the odd item but have never figured out exactly how to use it. So as not to embarrass myself by asking my mates, I have been trawling the mighty YouTube for much needed guidance. It then occurred to me, why not do a blog which explains the basics of the magical world of gaming?
This week I thought it would be best to start with an easy one and look into consoles. Consoles are probably the first thing most people would refer to when they think of gaming. Currently there are three main companies, and their latest consoles are divided into the following: Microsoft (Xbox 360), Sony (Playstation 3) and Nintendo (Wii).
Each console appeals to a particular niche market and can offer something different for all ages and gaming experience. Many do think that these consoles are nothing alike, but if you look a little closely, you can find what you want from each of these consoles.
Okay, so let’s start with the Nintendo Wii. The Wii is probably best known for the dual control of the Wii remote and nunchuck and its mascot Mario and the Super Mario series. The Wii is seen as the more family friendly and party console with their games literally getting you to move in such titles as Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Resort. Now the Wii may not have the best graphics but don’t think that the Wii can’t be a kick ass console for it has titles such as Red Steel 2, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the very dark Manhunt 2.

Xbox 360 has the capability of running games through a HDTV so they look shiny. Recently the newest version of the Xbox 360, which has a 250GB hard drive has been released with an extra spare port to connect up Xbox’s new addition, Kinect. Kinect basically is a lot like the Wii dual remote but instead your body is the control pad, and is due for release soon. Xbox 360 is known for the Halo series with Halo Reach that came out not too long ago, and the Gears of War series.

Playstation 3 biggest selling point is that it doubles up as a Blu-ray player. This is super handy because you can get your gaming on and also save yourself a fortune by not buying a Blu-ray player separately. Recently Playstation has released the Playstation Move, which is again similar to the Wii dual remote. Playstation 3 has an array of games to suit all players, from the Tomb Raider series to the ever popular Little Big Planet.

Hopefully this information will give you a good basis so you can start your gaming voyage. Next time I’ll be looking into console peripherals, exploring the fascination of playing online and the essential games you need to play on each console.
