I’ve recently come out of a serious relationship. There were some good times, there were some bad times but mostly good times. It was a bit of a wild ride. A passion like fire. Ever moving, always changing; keeping me on my toes, making me change and feel and love.
I’m not sure what happened. I think I got bored. It seems so selfish to say but I have to be true to myself. After hours and hours together, we were as one, we became all we could be together. There’s only so much of any relationship to explore I guess. You find your favourite things about each other and absorb them into yourself, learning, growing, evolving, until it maxes out. Some end sooner than others and a lucky few can find a true connection that will last a lifetime. I thought I’d found that, for a long time.
We still see each other, and we still hold a great deal of affection for each other. The spark is still there, but nothing more. Fleeting encounters now and then is all that can ever be between us. For the same faded patterns creep in, the tired rut becomes visible and I remember why we parted ways. Sometimes I wish we could go back to the way things were, for the excitement, the rush to get together when we were apart, the heart-pounding moments of exhilaration when we were in perfect synchronised harmony.
But these things happen, eh? People change, they want different things. Seeking out new experiences stops life from becoming stale and boring. I have a new love in my life and that wonderful flowing energy has returned to me, the chase, the exploration and discovery of how to fit together and unite into a unique pairing, separate yet fused in thought, impulse and actions. It’s different this time, in many ways, but just as attractive and magnetic. With different rules, a different frame of mind, bigger muscles – and a gun with a chainsaw on it!
