Memoirs of a Gamer

As I stand overlooking the chasm before me, I feel compelled to reflect on the moments that brought me here. Surrounded by the historic and supernatural architecture, interwoven with the beautiful and yet terrifying Taiwanese jungle landscape you can’t help but ponder how fate let you reach this place; although a dream, reality can often make you doubt your goals are ever achievable.

Willamette, Colorado; where this venture all began.

I really cannot help but wonder if my journey would have ever begun if it had not been for that shy, retiring, zombie infested suburban town. Some places change you, and there’s nothing like fighting for survival with a shopping cart or nail gun to make you grow as a person. Pitting myself against clown themed maniacs or undead worshipping cults opened up a whole new world for me to explore; I did as I was told…

Debris falls around me as cavernous pits devour the ground before my feet. Desperate and panicking, I battle through every turn, my knuckles turning white at each bend or narrow path. I hold my breath, Forward Unto Dawn my last remaining hope. Just one last jump and I’m home. I breathe a sigh of relief as we take off from that God forsaken ring, surely this has to be the end? Destiny it seems has more in store for me as our ship is ripped in two… quietly I sleep now, waiting for someone to stumble upon my drifting cell, but I know they remember me back home. The war is over. We are heroes. One day I’ll return….

Dreams have become me of late, so many thoughts and memories cloud my concentration and yet they are beautiful, as they drift past my mind; although not all happy ones, who can deny what influence such tales have had on the person I’ve become? One thousand years and yet still no time; so much evil and destruction within this magnificent world. As I travel the land, see the people, their lives and their individual tales, I am too oft reminded that I never will belong…

lo

For years I have waited for this moment: the chance to see how this will all play out. weskMoonlight shines down from the night sky as I turn to my partner and wait for her glance. She nods in approval and I turn to move and give that monster the hell I’ve always dreamed of. We dart from behind the frater’s shelter, dividing his attention in two. He won’t see this coming, I’ve got you now. I lift the launcher, bearing its weight on my shoulder. My heart racing, I pull the trigger and unleash the round in his direction.

“Son of a-” I cry, as I watch this genetic beast catch the torpedo with his bare hands and wrestle with its power like an animal with its prey. I needn’t have worried. As Sheva fires a round from her trusty M92F, the rocket explodes with a powerful blast, forcing even Wesker to catch his breath. I take my chance, and run full speed towards my fallen foe. Without delay, I snatch the serum from my pocket and plunge the needle deep into his skin, feeling his flesh tear upon impact. He’s going down…

The Gods before me give way to the treasure hidden deep within, but alas for me the bounty has gone. And yet, there remains a hidden secret; a riddle – my journey is not at an end. As I dive into the cool refreshing water and head to my home far away, one more collectable remains.

As I stand at 17,859 I try to convince myself that the gamerscore just doesn’t matter (when one of your mates has gradually accelerated away to the 50k mark you have to use techniques like this to keep playing, or just sell the Xbox).

However, it’s all a lie and I envy you the 20k mark, hopefully I’ll get there before the year end!!!

It’s always interesting when you consider the stories that yor achievements map out…I suppose that is why I think there is more to them than just a number and thus it is a very personal thing. Looking forward to hitting the big 20,00 myself some day 😀
