Virtual Boy is back thanks to the Oculus Rift

Yes! You heard that correctly. News has finally hit the Internet that you can, if you’re fortunate enough to have a developer kit, play Virtual Boy using the Oculus Rift.

If you’re unaware of what an Oculus Rift is: it’s a virtual reality headset that can be programmed to mimic the players head movements, eye movements, and give a full 3D experience.

Sadly, the new Virtual Boy emulator dubbed VBjin-ovr (catchy) does not take advantage of any of these new features due to being a Virtual Boy emulator. It does still give the two screen effect the original console did way back in 1995, technically making it 3D-ish, but this emulator may be a rare opportunity for UK/European players. The Virtual Boy was such a colossal failure, both commercially and critically, that it was never released in any PAL region before being discontinued 6 months after launch.

You can’t find a better Wario game than Wario Land on the Virtual Boy, so congratulations are in order I suppose? At least players will be able to enjoy it in all its black and red glory, with a huge chunk of plastic strapped to their face – just as Nintendo intended.
