GTA V crashes older Xbox 360 consoles

Owners of older Xbox 360 consoles – manufactured between 2006 and 2008 – claim that Rockstar’s GTA V game doesn’t run quite as smoothly as it does on newer models of the machine. Though it isn’t clear what’s the cause behind the issue experienced by these players, the problem seems to start at the beginning of the game, just after the cutscenes after the first mission, causing the console to freeze before ultimately crashing.

A few possible solutions have been floating around the net but only one seems to have had a fair amount of success in solving the issue. The protocol requires you to go through the following steps; delete all game data, clear system cache three times, delete marketplace data from storage system items before unplugging the console for three minutes. After this, install the “install” disc and power off without inserting the “play” disc then restart the console and install the latter. It is worth noting that the last step goes against Rockstar advice not to install the “play” disc which we reported on last week.

Rockstar hasn’t commented on these claims yet.

I was the OP of the Xbox Support fix.

I posted this in one of the source threads, I’ll repost relevant parts here:

“How sure are you that this is a minority when the top article on R*
    support is http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200148846-How-to-tell-whether-failed-installations-or-random-crashes-freezes-glitches-are-caused-by-a-bad-disc-or-console-hardware-issue ?

Just reading through these forums you’ll find these issues are happening with every version of the game, DDL and disc, and on many different models of PS3 and 360. These are not minor glitches, like those further down the R* support page, they are game-breaking.

Mine for instance is a 250GB S that had freezing, lag, pop-in etc until
Xbox Support provided me a temporary fix. It’s also telling that these
issues have made a major news site such as Kotaku however inaccurate
    their article may be.

R* support provides an auto-response when e-mailed, but you’re right.
The only way we can get these issues resolved is by complaining directly
    to R*, MS and Sony.”

Thanks for shining more light into this issue, I’m sure it’ll help people having trouble with the game look for answers in the right place. I feel very lucky not to have had a single problem with the game, I finished it today on PS3 (250GB slim) and everything was flawless.
