Insomnia 49 to Host Minecraft Expo This August

The festival, which also hosts a number of eSports tournaments, will allow for 3,000 “bring your own computer or console” players to join in on the fun. In addition, Multiplay, the company behind the event, are expecting up-to 15,000 visitors through the door to attend the Exhibition Hall at Telford International Centre.

Inside, attendees can expect to find the latest games, development talks, e-tailers selling the latest hardware and even retro gaming arcades (yes!) and chill out zones. Two million gamers will also be peeking in at the proceedings through online streaming.

But if competitive gaming turns you off and you’re more invested in the idea of working with others to build grand cities and structures, then the Minecraft Expo UK might be more your cup of tea. It follows up from the successful MINECON 2012 which took place in Disneyland Paris.

From costume competitions through to live “Let’s Play” panels, the Minecraft Expo will feature a host of fun Minecraft-themed activities. Community celebrities will also play a role, including members of the Yogscast, as well as the machinima experts over at Hatfilms. Developer Chucklefish will also be on-hand to show off PC title Starbound, the spiritual follow-up to Terraria.

We’ll have more coverage of Insomnia 49 and Minecraft Expo come August, with Ready Up attending the event in person. If you’re interested in joining us, be sure to grab your tickets from Multiplay’s website before you go.
