Ground Zeroes Courts Controversy

Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima expressed concerns recently that the next entry into the series may be too controversial to sell.

Legendary developer Hideo Kojima is eager to bring more mature themes into the gaming world with Ground Zeroes but worries he may go a bit too far and render the game unmarketable.

“Honestly I’m going to be targeting a lot of taboos, a lot of mature themes that really are quite risky. I’m not even sure if I’m going to be able to release the game, and even if I did release the game then maybe it wouldn’t sell because it’s too much.”

Kojima didn’t even hint at what he may be referring to but it won’t be the first time the series has courted a controversial subject, the second game placing you in the shoes of, Raiden, someone who’d been a child soldier.

Could it get much more taboo than child soldiering, or is this just a clever move to give the hype train an encouraging shove?

“I’m approaching the project as a creator and prioritising creativity over sales.”, says Kojima.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
