The are certain game franchises that will draw my instant attention when I see mention of them in my press release heavy inbox. One of those franchises is Ghost Recon. I’ve played every Ghost Recon game that has been released, starting on the PC, then through the consoles up until the recent (and excellent) 3DS Shadow Wars. I’ve watched Kirsten undergo training at the hands of the Warfighters and regularly return for voluntary punishment myself.
Yesterday Ubisoft announced Ghost Recon Online, an online, free-to-play multi-player, third-person, cover-based tactical shooter that promises the most social, connected and customizable Ghost Recon experience yet. There is not one word in italics there that doesn’t fill me with joy. I think it’s safe to assume we can expect online clan support, customisable Ghost operatives and, as it’s free-to-play, a shop of some kind where I can buy an assault vest and US Woodland camo that matches the gear I own in real life.
There will be a closed beta starting this summer, and you can sign up for that here. For now though, you’ll have to make do with this fairly awesome trailer.
