Firstly, you’ll find no spoilers here.
I’ve had a varied relationship with the Devil May Cry series. I played and loved the first game. I’m a sucker for cool prerendered cut scenes and DMC1 has some real gems. The scene where Dante gets pinned to the floor by the sword Alastor and then proceeds to stand up and fling the sword about a bit could well be my favourite cut scene of all time. Why? Because it’s cool as hell, that’s why!
Devil May Cry 2, well I did buy this but I didn’t enjoy it much. Despite receiving reasonable review scores it was not accepted well by the fans. I never played DMC3, I don’t know why. It’s been a while since then so when DMC4 was announced I was ready for some more DMC style action.
OK, now I’ve said it. Style. When the DMC4 demo appeared on the 360 Marketplace it was listed as a Stylish Action game. My first though when I read this was ‘Stylish Action? What a crock’. Having now played the game for a few weeks I have to take that back. If there is one trait that DMC4 has it would be style and that style is delivered to us via the medium of action. I have been playing the game very casually but I’m well over half way through now and the game is serving up hour after hour of cool moves and over the top story. Yep, it’s cheesy and a bit stupid but I’m loving it.
I understand that some people took issue with Dante not being the main man this time round but I loved how Nero plays and fights, he’s an interesting addition and although he’s cocky he’s not arrogant like Dante who seems to have become a bit up himself over the years. Also his demon arm is AWESOME!
In conclusion, DMC4 is a Stylish Action game, I’m sorry for thinking otherwise. Please forgive me.
