Bethesda wants Elder Scrolls Online to not be behind Xbox Live paywall

Bethesda have come out and stated that they are in talks with Microsoft over the Xbox Live service requiring users to have a Gold account in order to play games online, as it clashes with the pay-monthly formula that most big MMORPGs make use of.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines told OXM that there’s no current way to work around Xbox Live’s multiplayer paywall, but that they were in talks with Microsoft about possibly changing the way they do things, or making an exception for Elder Scrolls Online.

Having said that, we have been in talks with Microsoft about that very thing, and seeing whether or not there’s any room to change their minds about that,” Hines stated, giving some indication that it’s a conversation rather than Bethesda asking and Microsoft shutting them down.

This is not hard to imagine really, an Xbox Live Gold account isn’t required to play Final Fantasy XI online, why would this be any different?
