Kinect 2.0 not required to use Xbox One

A step up from being able to switch off your Kinect, Microsoft will now let you unplug it entirely while using your Xbox One in Microsoft’s latest policy reversal.

The news was casually included in a response by Microsoft’s Mark Whitten to questions from IGN about Microsoft’s upcoming console.

In answering a question about what will happen if your Kinect sensor breaks Whitten says this: “That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor.”

Kind of gives off the feeling that it was always like that and no one bothered to tell us right?

Sure wouldn’t be the first time since the Xbox One’s reveal that Microsoft has failed to let us in on something we’d really like to know.

Could it be that this is yet another miscommunication rather than another 180?
