Nintendo shutting down certain Wii online services

One of the seven signs of the impending apocalypse has been announced, as Nintendo has confirmed that it will be shutting down selected functions of the Wii’s online services on June 28th this year.

All 100,000,000 or so Wii owners will lose the online functionality of the following Wii services when Nintendo brings the pain this coming Summer:

  • Nintendo Channel
  • News Channel
  • Forecast Channel
  • Everybody Votes Channel
  • Mii Contest Channel
  • Exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Message Board
  • Exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel.
  • Message/data exchange within some games will be disabled.
  • The ‘Today’s Accomplishments’ section will remain operational, as will the Wii Shop Channel because Nintendo likes money.

We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company’s products,” a Nintendo spokesperson stated. “We apologise to those of you currently using these services.

Fortunately the Nintendo Wii is not an always-online DRM console, so all copies of ‘Hotel For Dogs‘ will remain playable in all their glory come June 28th.
