We meet again… and again

We all have that game which we just never got to completely finish. Me, I have a whole pile. Some need me to complete it on a harder mode, which after tearing my hair out for hours doesn’t seem all that attractive. Others I just kind of forgot to finish because I either a) got distracted by something, or b) the game began to get a little bit too hard for my liking. Although this can be a massive kick in the head, especially when you spent oodles to get it, the upside is that you have something to play on that random rainy day (so who’s laughing now!?).

After a root around I’ve decided my game of choice to try and crack (again) is Elite Beat Agents for the Nintendo DS. I got this game about… (furiously counting on my fingers) two years ago and from the first time I played it I was hooked. For those who have never played, or dare I say, not heard of Elite Beat Agents, it’s basically a dance mat game for your DS. You play as a three piece elite group who help everyday people in need through the power of dance. To play the game all you need to do is hit the various markers which appear in numerical order and also to the kick-ass tunes. As with any other game there are various difficulties and I was determined to get through the three levels, which are Breezin’, Cruisin’ and Sweatin’.

Don't let the bright colours fool you. This game is hard.

So after many man hours of tapping and spinning I finally got to the end of the game… or so I thought. The game then informs me that I’ve unlocked some secret level of the game, called Hard Rockin’, which involves three cheerleader agents know as the Elite Beat Divas. The fact the difficulty is called Hard Rockin’, means I should have guessed this was not going to be easy. I mean Sweatin’ was really tough, with the markers popping up on the offbeat or being right on top of each other, but I was not prepared for this. Hard Rockin’ is like a bazillion times harder. The markers are like the size of the pins and they’re just all over the shop. After trying to furiously get through the first song, I decided to just walk away from the game before I threw my DS against the wall.

It’s been at least a year since I last played Elite Beat Agents and I now feel mentally strong enough to get to the end. Well after furiously trying for the past three days to finish this ridiculous difficulty, I regret to inform that it was all in vain. I find myself again getting nowhere and I’m afraid I’m going to have to put this game away. Oh well, I’ll just move onto the next unfinished game until I forget the burning shame I feel.

Baldur’s Gate is probably the game at the top of my “have played, but haven’t finished” pile. I mean, I *know* it’s awesome and I *know* I love it, I just can’t be bothered to finish it or even play through it with any vigour. The lack of a proper quest log is a pain in the arse too.
