Ready Up

A New DS?

Rumours surfaced all over the internet last month concerning a new version of Nintendo’s handheld console, the DS. IGN learned today that the rumour is most likely true and that we’ll probably be seeing the new version by April or May of next year.

Rumoured changes include touch-pad functionality on both screens and a wider screen aspect ratio. But there’s no word yet on whether it’ll be a totally new machine supporting new games and such or if it’s simply another fancy update to the current DS.

I mean, do we really need another version of the DS? We already have the DS Lite, featuring various colours. So here’s hoping it’s a completely new device and not another marketing ploy for Nintendo.

    Who needs a new DS? It’s probably to inspire more people to buy into one (as in to buy one of Nintendos’ handhelds, I’m going to guess there’s a lot more people interested in Nintendo since Wii Fit reared its head).
    I would quite like a DS Lite though. My old DS is fat and ugly.

    Having to fork out for a DS Lite after Nintendo decided to update what seemed like a clunky prototype thing was a pain in the arse, so this isn’t great news 🙁

    I don’t have a DS yet or a PSP but with Uni starting soon, I’m in the market for a hand held and with all this talk of a DS2 and the new PSP 3000 I’m beginning to think I’ll just stick with Jawbreaker on my iPod touch.

    I’d buy a new DS in a second. My DS gets a lot of play time, I had a DS phat on UK launch and a DS Lite from Japan when that came out.

    I do love my Lite and have been a sucker for importing Limited editins, such as the numbered Final Fantasy 3 one until my credit card folded it’s arms and refused to do any more 🙁 Though the customs import levels lifting in December will also be a big help.

    I hope they do release a new one, for a couple of reasons…
    1, the bigger screen would be just lovely
    2, mine is dying and I need a new one! Haha 🙂
