Review: Space Chimps (Juniors)
Platform: Xbox 360 / Developer: Brash Entertainment / Publisher: Warner Bros.

Ever wondered what happened to that first chimp that was sent into space? No? Me neither, but apparently he settled down, met a Chimpette, had himself some chimp babies who then grew up and made him a Grandchimp, awww.

When a five billion dollar NASA probe disappears into an intergalactic wormhole the mission is deemed too dangerous for humans to take on so the grandson of the first chimp in space is called upon to join a highly trained crew and recover the very important and extremely expensive piece of technology. The thing is, Ham the Third is no astronaut, he’s a carefree circus performer but when he and the rest of the crew come across a planet of peaceful inhabitants that are being ruled by an evil dictator, Ham must show what he’s truly made of.

Here’s what one of our Ready Up Juniors had to say about it…

Name : Ryan

Age: 6

What did you like about Space Chimps?

Ryan: That you can collect things, aiming at things is fun.

Who was your favorite character?

Ryan: The guy monkey (Ham) because he can do head slams.

What was the best bit about the game?

Ryan: Making the monster (a big stone dinosaur type thing) collapse

What was the worst bit about the game?

Ryan: The snake pine things that bite you and that you can’t swim.

How much fun was this game?

Ryan: Mega fun!!!!!

Parents’ Comments: The menus aren’t good, it’s a platform game with no shadows and the sounds are poor. For example if you hear a waterfall and turn around the sound goes away until you turn a bit further. The colours look like something from the SNES.

Summary

This is one game that's purely for the kids, there's lots of swinging and bouncing around involved and it's not too challenging which is a good thing as it'd be best to leave them to bump up your gamerscore by themselves because the poor sound and unimpressive graphics could drive a more experienced gamer slightly crazy.

The sand on this planet got really hot at times!
All hail Ham the Third!
