Okay, Okay, Monopoly? I hear you ask. I know this game has been done to death, it is the quintessential family board
game. Most people probably have a memory of playing it at home or maybe a game with a very sore loser.
Come on, it’s awesome. Instead of properties you collect… You guessed it! Pokémon. Gotta catch em all!
The rules very pretty much exactly from your regular monopoly, just imposed with Pokémon related pieces. You have Poké centres and marts instead of hotels and houses. You have Ash and Professor Oak cards instead of community chest and chance. You have to pay fines due to Team Rocket and Gary Oak and instead of Utilities you have – Legendary Pokémon!
Pokémon prices are ranked in categories like normal monopoly, but they are based on power, rarity etc. rather than location. Train stations are Pokéballs and you can still end up in jail… which to be honest when my friend and boyfriend built up PokéMarts everywhere it was a preferable place to be!
It was lots of fun, it has that same competitive drive of Monopoly but with all the added awesomeness of collecting some of your favourite Pokémon. The board is colourful and well made, your avatar pieces are detailed and accurate. I was Lapris who is awesome making laps around the board.
It is a limited edition collectors item I bought on Ebay and one I think I’ll treasure for a long time to come.
Maybe it’s time you revised the Monopoly special edition of your liking!
