Christmas Game Music

‘Tis the season to talk about Christmas nonsense, so I’d like to remind and / or introduce you to some of the best Christmas (or, at the least Wintery) game music. I say best… but I really mean the ones wot I like and that.

The Dragon Gave a Loud Scream ~In Holy Night~ (Christmas NiGHTS)

Christmas NiGHTS is rather impressively packed full of content for a glorified demo. Unlockable presents and a dynamic level, changing according to special dates and seasons, makes it one of my Saturn faves. This track is a Christmassy remix of Gillwing’s jazzy boss theme, with plenty of sleigh bells laid on for good measure.

Over Shiver Mountain (Paper Mario 64)

Decidedly desolate, but the background chimes keep the track cheery enough. Watch out for that xylophone explosion towards the end. This really makes me want to replay this on Wii U Virtual Console this holiday season.

Ice Cap Zone: Act 2 (Sonic the Hedgehog 3)

An oldie, but a goodie. Act 2 is a subtler, arranged version of Act 1’s catchy beat, and just as pleasing.

Buried in the Snow (Final Fantasy VII)

After a good long day of snowboarding there’s nothing quite like cosying up to the fireplace in a log cabin. Icicle Inn is and the surrounding Great Glacier area is so picturesque it’d be right at home on a Christmas Card.

Ice Cavern (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

A short, chilly tune from a short, chilly dungeon. The wind whistles ominously under the pealing sounds of stalactites and stalagmites. Brr.

Title ~First Snow Mix~ (Animal Crossing)

An easy way to while away a winter is to get lost in the world of Animal Crossing. No, preferably not the stilted dollhouse sim Happy Home Designer, but the main series itself. This chilled out remix adds a soothing seasonal vibe to the original game’s title tune.

Well, those were my selections, but I’m keen to hear your favourite festive tunes too. Let me know your favourite in the comments below.

Have a very festive Yuletide folks! I strongly recommend you pick up NiGHTS into Dreams on a PS3, 360, or PC near you to play the ultimate Christmas game, Christmas NiGHTS. No, really,  I insist.
