Disney Interactive has announced a free to play Star Wars game called Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, which will be being developed by newcomers Area 52 Games.

Next year Attack Squadrons will give gamers a chance to take part in dogfights with up to 15 other human players in the darkness of space in a variety of different ships.

Seemingly set in the era of the original trilogy, the free to play space combat simulator will let players also customise their ships and take part in a host of different game modes.

No doubt it will also feature microtransactions pretty heavily as is standard for a free to play game, so prepare to either put in a ton of time or cough up the big bucks if you want to get the most out of your time with it.

Beta sign ups are already open so sign up on the game’s official site to get the chance to play it earlier than your mates.
