Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics Free at GOG.com until Saturday

GOG.com made the announcement earlier today on their official blog, where they clarified that existing users can gift free copies of the games to their friends. Signing up for a GOG.com is completely free of charge.

Curiously, it seems that the classic Fallout titles are pending a rights holder change, prompting GOG.com to push these titles one last time before they may have to remove them.

Commenting on the rights issue, GOG.com said: “Please note that all three classic Fallout titles are pending right holder change. Sadly, to the best of our knowledge, we’ll be forced to remove Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics from our offer.”

However, if you add the games to your account now, you should be entitled to them forever. GOG.com added: “That doesn’t mean, however, that you won’t be able to download them if they are already a part of [your] collection by then. Secure your copies today (or anytime before Saturday, December 14, at 1:59PM GMT)!”

While a lot of our readers are probably more familiar with Bethesda’s Fallout 3 and Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas, I wouldn’t dismiss Fallout 1 or 2; these early titles do an incredible job of defining the series’ trademark oppressive atmosphere, witty writing and deep lore. Of note, many of the employees who worked on New Vegas for Obsidian Entertainment were formally of Black Isle Studios, allowing them to effectively expand on their original story canon.
