Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Hobbit is going to be getting it’s very own LEGO game. The game will be released in early 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, PS Vita, and 3DS (whoa).
Unfortunately, the game will only cover the first two parts of the Hobbit film trilogy – ‘An Unexpected Journey’ and ‘Desolation of Smaug’ – the second part being due to release in cinemas this December.
This leads to the likely conclusion that the game will more closely follow the story of the films, rather than the original J. R. R. Tolkien book. The differences between the two which have been outlined here by a very dedicated fan. Though this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it does lead to the assumption that a “Complete Trilogy” edition will likely be released in the very near future.
Traveller’s Tales Marketing Director, Tom Stone, added to the announcement: “We are thrilled to depict the characters and environments of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth in LEGO form with the LEGO The Hobbit videogame. Our family-friendly take on these thrilling adventures will have kids and parents playing and laughing together as they build and explore in LEGO Middle-earth.”
Fortunately there were a few new screenshots released along with the announcement to add a spark of excitement. These can be seen below in all their block glory.
