GTA Online servers buckle, like we all knew they would

A great multitude of gamers, including myself, are finding it nigh on impossible to get GTA Online running on their consoles owing to server issues and various other bugs and glitches.

As foretold by Rockstar the most widespread problem seems to be even connecting to the network as hundreds of thousands of gamers attempt to clock in and do a shoot all over each other. The service went live at 12pm and since then it’s been bombarded by excited players trying to get in on the action.

Other issues are cropping up too. The tutorial, for example, starts with a race but unfortunately a number of players have reported that the marker that you walk to to begin the race doesn’t show up leaving them trapped and unable to proceed.

Others are saying they can connect partially and play with others who have done the same but seem to be missing some of the game’s social features and cannot make use of matchmaking.

Others still are reporting that the game turns to a black screen whenever they select the icon in the character select wheel that signifies the online component, and that the black screen does not go away until they either restart their machine or revert to their console’s dashboard/UI.

To add to this, the help page that Rockstar Support’s twitter handle is handing out to concerned gamers seems to have collapsed too.

Other issues being experienced are:

  • Freezing sometimes while loading into first race in GTAO with “waiting for other players” on the screen
  • Intermittent “Failed to Host a GTA Online Session” error messages
  • Race Corona (start area, marker) occasionally not showing up for first race
  • Errors saying “Timed out when matchmaking for a compatible GTA Online Session to join”

Here’s hoping this all gets sorted out sharpish!
