GTA V Sells $800 Million on First Day

The headline says it all really, though I suppose it should probably be mentioned that by “First Day” it does include all sales that were finalised and paid for before the launch, such as pre-orders that get paid at posting, then break street day. But yeah, all those minus days and launch day grouped together into ‘first day sales’ for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V culminated in a total of $800,000,000. Eight hundred million dollars. Close to five hundred million pounds sterling. For context that’s $33,333,333 an hour, or $555,555 a minute, or $9,259 a second. This game has made more per second than I will make all year.

On a more serious, less mesmerised by numbers note, the current big sales record to beat is the $1billion mark. Less of an if, more of a when at this point. The current holder is Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 at 15 days to reach the 10 figure sum. I would be willing to bet GTA earns that ninth zero by the end of the week.
