Japan not getting PS4 until 2014

Today Sony has announced that the Playstation 4 won’t be available in Japan until early next year. This doesn’t come as a surprise since Sony has remained elusive about releasing the console in the East, promising instead a Holiday 2013 release in Europe and North America.

The company says that “the availability of content” is what drove it to release the PS4 later in Japan than in the West. Sony has focused on western titles that will be available on the next-gen machine and so the Japanese development hasn’t got quite as far as the one for the European and Northern American markets.

The console with a DualShock 4 controller will cost 39 980 Yen (around £250, which is £100 cheaper than on the UK market); the console with a DualShock 4 and a Playstation 4 camera will cost 43 980 Yen (around £280). A First Limited Pack will be available and offer a code for the game Knack and a one year warranty on the hardware.

Playstation 4 will be released on 15th November 2013 in the US and 29th November 2013 in Europe, it will then hit the Japanese stores on 22nd February 2014.
