Under development for the last year, Ghost Song promises a large, open-world to explore filled with upgradable power-ups and tough boss-battles. While obviously heavily inspired by Metroid, developer Matt White also cited Dark Souls as an influence on difficulty and balancing.
Like Super Metroid, the game makes use of some gorgeous 2D artwork to help build atmosphere, which can be seen in both the trailer and gameplay walkthrough videos on its Kickstarter page.
Though the game failed to meet the $60,000 milestone required for a Wii U release, author Matt White addressed the possibility of it appearing later in a Kickstarter update:
“To those who may be lamenting about the Wii U goal — I’m working to make this happen anyway. That’s not official, but it’s a desire of mine and I hope to have that out at some point, if not at release, then following release.”
Although the Kickstarter has ended, you can still back the game via PayPal and receive a DRM-free PC/Mac copy of the game when it is released.
