Bit Socket JRPG Month – Dark Souls

Over the past few years, one genre has been taking a right battering. JRPGs used to be one of gaming’s most treasured, respected genres, with blockbuster titles like Final Fantasy and other cult classics making their mark on the industry. Nowadays, people write-off JRPGs as a dead genre; showing too little innovation to keep up, or losing their core values with too much animation.

We don’t think that at Bit Socket.

Right now, the JRPG is in rude health. This year alone we’ve seen the release of Ni No Kuni, one of the greatest games we’ve ever played. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing some of our favourite JRPGs with you, from the absolute classics we can all agree on, to some of the games we think have been unfairly underrated. It all kicks off with Scott’s review of Dark Souls, a game that has made him learn from death.

Keep Bit Socketin’, and let us know your favourite JRPGs.
