The title popped up on Steam’s Greenlight database on Tuesday evening, joined by a blog post from publisher Rising Star Games:
“We’re excited about the idea of bringing you an enhanced version of the already-improved Director’s Cut, but to do that – as with any Greenlight project – we need your help. So, if you want to solve the mystery of the Raincoat Killer on PC in the near future, please give us your support and help us make one of the biggest cult hits of the decade a reality on Steam very soon!”
As Rising Star Games have published PC games in the past, it might be expected that the company could publish the game directly to Steam without needing to go through Greenlight. However, it’s also likely that they’re using the platform to gauge public interest in a PC version of the fan-favourite to ensure a return on their investment.
The Director’s Cut of Deadly Premonition was released in April on PlayStation 3, adding new cut-scenes, sharper visuals, downloadable content and an extended ending to the previously Xbox 360-exclusive title. However, it also introduced a lower frame-rate and other performance problems. It’s hoped that an eventual PC release would feature the best of both worlds.
We reviewed the original version of Deadly Premonition back in late 2010. Despite a hefty list of technical and gameplay issues that modern games rarely get away with, it scored 8/10, mostly due to its unique atmosphere and laughably bizarre characters.
