The news broke on the official US PlayStation blog, where Insomniac Community Lead James Stevenson gave some detailed insight into the new title.
Stevenson explained that Into the Nexus will act as a conclusion to the “Future” series of Ratchet & Clank games, which began with 2007’s well-received Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction: “We’re excited to announce that Ratchet and Clank are returning this year with an all new original single-player epilogue to the Future games.”
Stevenson also made it clear that the new game will return to the roots of the Ratchet & Clank franchise, eschewing the co-op focus of previous main entry Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One: “Under the creative direction of Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time creative director Brian Allgeier, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is a story-driven platform adventure, with the humor and heart that make the franchise so beloved.”
It’s an exciting time for R&C fans, as the reveal of Into the Nexus follows up from news in April that an animated Ratchet and Clank feature is in the works. The film, which aims to explore the origin story of the lombax and robot tag-team, will include the original voice cast from the main games. It is currently under development by Canadian animation company Rainmaker and is due for a release in 2015.
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus will debut on PS3 at a budget price of $29.99 in North America this holiday season, though a European price and date have yet to be announced. The announcement trailer is embedded below.
