Sony have confirmed, through their European division’s CEO Jim Ryan, that the PlayStation 4 currently has 20 exclusives in production by first-party studios that are set to release within the first year of the console’s release – and that 12 of these are new IPs.
The currently announced PS4 exclusive titles we know of include, but are not limited to: DriveClub, Infamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, and The Order: 1886.
“I’m sure you heard from Shu [Yoshida] that he has 30 games in development. 20 of them are going to ship within the first year of the console’s life, and of those, 12 are new IP,” said Jim Ryan in an E3 interview conducted by GameReactor. “There’s a lot going on, it’s just that we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans — we need to have something to show at Gamescom, don’t we?”
It seems to exclusive-number boasting is rife in recent months, with Microsoft stating that the Xbox One will release 15 exclusives, that includes 8 new IPs, within the first year of launch. Of course with such sparse details included with both Sony and Microsoft’s statements, we could be looking down the barrel of a mound of Kinect and PlayStation Move games respectively.
