The game, described as a mix between Minecraft and deep, open-world role-playing experiences like The Elder Scrolls, has already built up a dedicated fan-base.
Though the PC game doesn’t have a release date, many fans are taking the launch of the website as a sign that Cube World may finally enter an open or closed-beta soon.
The project is certainly an ambitious undertaking for the husband-and-wife team at developer picroma, but already features:
- Massive, procedurally-generated landscapes with no borders
- Action-based combat which relies on manual aiming and dodging
- Multiple classes, specilisations and playable races
- Quests, daily missions and dungeons
- Weapon crafting, with cube-by-cube customisation
- Tamable pets for mounting or combat
- Adventure skills used for travelling, including climbing, diving and hang gliding
- LAN-based or server-based multiplayer, with support for 2-4 players in co-op
The games sports a gorgeous voxel-inspired aesthetic, not dis-similar from PS3 title 3D Dot Game Heroes and successful kickstarter project Stonehearth. It runs on a custom C++ voxel engine created by head programmer, wollay, built over the last three years.
If you’ve never heard of Cube World before but think it might be your kind of thing, be sure to check out the new website, or the “Explorers” video released last month by picroma, embedded below.
