The news followed a showing of both new and announced Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles, including Metal Gear Solid V, World of Tanks, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition and Titanfall. An updated, even-slimmer model of the Xbox 360 was also announced (“out now” in North America), sporting an Xbox One-like chassis.
For early-adopters who plan to pick up Microsoft’s new console on day one, a pre-order will allow them to obtain the “Day One Edition” of the system.
This limited-package will contain a uniquely-branded controller, a special “Day One” achievement, and DLC for games expected during the launch window of the One, which includes Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5 and Dead Rising 3.
Many fans have reacted negatively to the price of the Xbox One, with some pointing out that its USA RRP of $499 does not translate to £425 or €499, even after local taxes. It’s likely that the cost of the required Kinect 2.0 sensor has pushed price of entry up.
We probably won’t know how chief-competitor Sony will price their PS4 console until their conference is over, which starts at 2AM tomorrow.
Interestingly, though Microsoft did not confirm the exact date the console would launch in November, several retailers (including GameStop.com) listed the date as the 21st of November. Most of these listings have since been removed. Given that the 21st is one week before Thanksgiving weekend in America, the date seems feasible.
