Good morning, afternoon, evening, and good night, my fellow puzzle lovers. It is I, Sarah-Lou, with another edition of Stumped to max out your fun levels. So I’m currently going through a major gaming barrier right now, which I’m sure you’ve all experienced at some point, trying to game while sick. Head pounding, icky cough, painful chest and snotty nose would render any normal humanoid disabled making them bedridden. But us gamers are a special breed and will see this as an opportunity to get our gaming on. So while wrapped up in bed with a cup of hot Ribena, paracetamol and crumpled tissues, here are the games that have been keeping me company.
Adventures of Bloo – PC
I’m not sure if Bloo is a cat, dog or very fetching fox but that’s besides the point. The aim of this little ditty is to have Bloo become the same colour as the target platform you need to reach. Bloo will take the colour of any block he steps on except grey blocks. Bloo can lose the colour if he steps on another block of the same colour but he can also mix colours. So while blue and red will make purple, if Bloo then steps on a blue block he turns back to red. Extra points are earned for blocks that Bloo doesn’t step on which is what you need as it costs 100 points every time you want to re-do a level or Bloo falls. If you fancy some colour changing mammal action, check out Adventures of Bloo.
Dots: A Game About Connecting – iPhone
As you may have noticed, games that seem to capture my attention are always super simple and repetitive. This is also a fantastic combination when your head feels like it’s filled with cotton wool. Dots: A Game About Connecting is all about connecting as many same colour dots within 60 seconds. The dots can only be connected either vertically or horizontally, making the game that little bit tricky. If you are able to connect the dots into a shape like a square or rectangle, all other same coloured dots get collected too. The dots you collect can then be used to buy upgrades, such as having an extra five seconds to complete the level. All this game needs to do is get upgraded to either a PC version or iPad as I think it will look even better on a bigger screen.
Tetris Blitz – iPad, iPhone, Android
Every so often Tetris gets a revamp so this generation gets a chance to see how awesome we had it when the game first came into our lives. So with TB, they changed the format from the original game. The first change is that you start off with a stack of blocks that need clearing. Second, with every falling shape the game gives you, what I call quick options: it shows you multiple places where the shape can fit and all you do is tap which one you think is best. Third, if you clear enough blocks you can trigger frenzy mode where the more blocks that are cleared the higher your score. All of this within the fourth change: a two minute time limit.
And there you have it. Three puzzle beauties to keep your brain active as you slip in and out of your snot infested comas. They’re also suitable if you’re bored and just fancy a relaxing challenge. So until next time my puzzle explorers, keep on puzzlin’!
