Reanimated – Zwei Opens The Evil Within

Reanimated

Welcome back to Reanimated, the one stop shop for the dead, dying and the downright scary!

The sun is shining (for how long is anyone’s guess), the birds are singing (and dumping on your car windows) and the start of spring and all things chirpy has brought a little lull to the darker corner at RU of late. With longer days, brighter evenings and a jug of Pimm’s sitting in the fridge it can be hard to really get your scare on! But fear not, for we have finally been graced with information on something that I have been waiting for with baited breath, for a very… long… time!

That’s right my gore loving friends, the long secretive project from survival horror king, Shinji Mikame, has finally been unveiled! *Insert super awesome duh-duh-duuuhh music here*

if The Evil Within can return me to the state of anxiety I felt exploring Arklay Mansion for the first time, then I will consider it job done!

So what do we know? Well, the game which is currently being developed by Tango Gameworks will be called The Evil Within, and will be released on current and next gen consoles, as well as PC sometime next year. So what about the plot? Content? The game looks set to focus on a protagnist called Detective Sebastian, who is sucked into a Silent Hill-esque world full of creepy monsters, blood and corpses after attending the scene of a brutal crime. The announcement was accompanied by some excitingly gruesome screens and a chilling live-action trailer which, much like the trailers for Dead Island and ZombiU, is good in raising your anticipation but gives very little away about the game itself.

Put your hands in the air if you’re having a good time!

What is important to remember here is that Mikami really is one of, if not the pioneer of the survival horror game. His producing and directing work on the Resident Evil and Dino Crisis franchises created a benchmark for the genre. If you believe his initial statements of this latest notch on his belt being his sign off game, then the sky really is the limit for how far Mikami could push the boundaries for scares. While under the ‘Project Zwei’ title, Mikami stated the game would challenge gamers to confront and overcome their fears; if The Evil Within can return me to the state of anxiety I felt exploring Arklay Mansion for the first time, then I will consider it job done!

As always, I will keep you up to date on developments as they happen, but for now, enjoy the taste of things to come by watching the teaser trailer at theevilwithin.com! Enjoy, gore-hunters!
