LucasArts may be dead but one of their most loved franchises may well get to live on in the work of the modding community. That’s right, developer Raven Software have released the source code for Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and the sequel Jedi Academy onto the webbernets for avid coders and other creative types to fiddle around with.
A statement made to Kotaku read, “We loved and appreciated the experience of getting to make Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy for LucasArts. As a gift to the persistently loyal fanbase for our Jedi games and in memory of LucasArts, we are releasing the source code for both games for people to enjoy and play with.”
No doubt the modding community is frothing at the mouth so here’s where you can get your hands on the source code for Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.
Since its release way back in 2002 Jedi Knight 2 has had an active modding community and Jedi Academy was met with the same enthusiasm. Some bedroom coders are still making and releasing mods, skins, and effects for the games, and it’s safe to assume it’ll only get bigger and better from here.
So what’s next, do we wager?
