King’s Quest Revival Dropped by Telltale

The news was revealed in a statement made by Telltale’s senior VP of publishing, Steve Allison, to tech-blog DigitalTrends:

“While we deeply love King’s Quest here at Telltale, we can confirm that we are no longer working on the franchise. There was a time last year that we investigated partnering with third-party developers to produce the game as a partnership but decided against outsourcing.”

Admittedly, between The Walking Dead, new series The Wolf Among Us and their extensive back-catalogue of licenced titles, Telltale Games are busy with several projects. Interest was recently raised in the current licence-holders of King’s Quest when Paul Trowe – who is currently developing a Kickstarter-funded remake of Leisure Suit Larry – mentioned Activision to DigitalTrends during an interview at GDC:

“Activision’s probably not going to give us the King’s Quest rights. [Telltale] had it, and we were going to license it from them to make the remakes. Then I talked to the guys at Activision and they were like, ‘No, we’re pulling it because we’re going to do it ourselves.’”

Activision have made no formal announcement regarding the King’s Quest franchise.
