My 2011 Gaming List – So Far

Last year was a great year for games and I have to admit I had a lot of fun in 2010 with all the amazing and jaw-dropping releases that many of the developers had on offer. Heavy Rain was the first title I bought and since the first day of play I have been itching to put it back in to my PS3 (if only my college ‘buddy’ hadn’t kept it for so long), and so I have rented it from LoveFilm once again to keep my eye from twitching due to lack of excellent video game stories. Next in line was BioShock 2, which I pre-ordered, and then on to titles such as Red Dead Redemption (which I managed to persuade a handful of others to purchase), CSI Fatal Conspiracy (a guilty pleasure), Fable 3 and so on and so forth.

All in all it was a fantastic year, but even with 2011 just beginning I have already started to compile a list of games which I will be purchasing from day one. Enjoy.

First on my list is Little Big Planet 2, I played a majority of levels back at Eurogamer and found the sequel to have so many more creative bites packed in to it than the first. Creating your own artistic levels and showing them to the world was amazing, although I couldn’t quite grasp how to create some objects in the LBP world. I was amazed at what you could achieve if you put your mind to it. The fact that you could also pop online and join friends in their own worlds or gallivant through the single player worlds as a SackTeam was thoroughly enjoyable. Needless to say, if you own a PS3 and don’t have the first title I suggest that you buy it because the second is 1,000,000 times better.

Second on my list is LA Noire, a title which I have been anticipating the release of since early 2009. Most people I spoke to about this title didn’t know much about it or didn’t even care enough to wonder what Rockstar and Team Bondi had in store for us. Heck, any Rockstar game to me is worth the purchase as they are a well established story telling developer. Playing a cop/detective in 1950/60s Los Angeles sounded like the backbone to a creative storyline and as soon as the trailers were released at the back end of 2010 I knew where my money was heading.

Lastly on my list, a title which I have only recently added, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. If you have ever played the Uncharted series I’m sure you understand why I would want to pre-order this marvellous third instalment and any woman would also (or should) understand the hotness, that is Nathan Drake and why I would want to spend hours in his world making him dive into water only to get wet.

I can’t help but notice the absence of what will easily be the biggest landmark in gaming history – I’ll give you a clue, it begins with D!

I am, of course, talking about Dynasty Warriors 7.

Uncharted 3 and L.A. Noire are among my top picks of 2011 as well, and for largely the same reasons. I’m not too ashamed to admit that I’ve got a bit of a mancrush on Nathan Drake, but then Elena and Chloe turn up and… Umm, Elena and Chloe… Er, wait a minute.
