I love Christmas, don’t you? All of the drinks, food, presents and of course precious time which can be spent with the family. Yes, I’m sure that all of us enjoy some part of a traditional Christmas but the best part of this seasonal holiday for me is being able to settle down to a good single player game. You heard me correctly folks; wrapping myself in a warm blanket, an open box of Celebrations by my side and a controller in my hand makes my Christmas day complete.
It’s this time of the year that I can finally relax and see what has been offered in the category of single player games and it isn’t often that you will find me playing a game on my own as almost every game has some kind of multiplayer to offer. With the recent release of Call of Duty Black Ops and old titles such as Left 4 Dead and Gears of War cropping up, it isn’t a regular occurrence that I sit down in a room on my own and delve in to a storyline or game mode without a friend by my side or indeed a friend howling in my ear through a headset.
Christmas is the time of year that I can have my own space, disconnect from Xbox Live or PSN and ponder my own thoughts as I play. The year 2010 has thrown a lot of marvellous and genuinely fantastic single player campaigns our way; BioShock 2, Alan Wake, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Red Dead Redemption to name but a few. Now that the days are closing in and Christmas Day is ever nearer I’m starting to think of the games which will accompany me on my Christmas Day journey to the houses of relatives and whether or not I should buy or ask for something new to play over the seasonal holidays. Or maybe I should go back and complete a game which I haven’t yet. Batman Arkham Asylum sounds tempting, Singularity still has its wrapping intact and BioShock/BioShock 2 have yet to be completed on my Xbox. Choices, choices. At least I don’t have this problem with the chocolates.
“Jingle bells, games are swell, I think I just scored 10G.”
