I remember the days of the PS2. Had mine for 5-6 years, never broke down, only froze a handful of times.

Now you can't walk down the street without hearing a next-gen console exploding in someone's living room.

The Wii hardware issues I've heard about have primarily been other pieces of nearby kit getting destroyed by flailing Wii-motes. Whereas the other two consoles are self-harmers, the Wii seems intent on damaging those around it.

I have a Mega-Drive that's never missed a beat to this day. Same with my mate's SNES. Seems a shame that as the tech gets better the life expectancy dwindles. Has been a bad generation for reliability.

It is dusturbing to hear another PS3 story of woe. We spend enough money on these consoles, at least the relevant companies could make a machine that lasts.

I never needed a replacement PS1, my PS2 did stop working for dvd based games but would play cd based games fine, so that was replaced. Thou, that was after years of usage.

I can only hope my lack of time using my PS3 will somehow preserve it's console life.

Sony say the PS3 will have a 10 year life cycle, they didn't tell us how many consoles we might need to see that through.

Anyone have any Wii woes?
