The three B’s
By Eleanor Saunders
June 7, 2009

A festival in Barcelona, three whole days of sun, music, beer and dancing. Who could say no to that? Well some might ask who is playing at the festival first, while others, like me, might not bother. People like me would agree to go, book their flights and even buy their festival ticket before they really stopped to think ‘do I even like this music?’

But actually it was ok, because even though I thought I had never heard of anyone who was playing I actually knew one headline act quite well. Bloc Party used to sing me through hours of Burnout Revenge without me even realising.

Now that got me thinking, since I rejected the more recent incarnation of Burnout and ceased playing it pretty rapidly does this mean that from now on I will go to festivals and I really won’t know any bands at all? Is gaming my only link to the world of popular music? I don’t ever listen to the radio, clubs always play the same music and I tend to only see bands live if I know who they are. So maybe gaming is the only way that new music can seep into my life.

Sadly without the high adrenaline of racing super fast cars Bloc Party are really nothing special. I’m not even so sure they were that special on the game. So having heard them live I will not be buying any of their albums, and I will not be in any kind of rush to see them again. But I am interested to know what other games could keep me up to date with the kids these days. Maybe that should be on the box or something: High action, challenging puzzles, realistic graphics, amazing AI and the ability to let you go to festivals with a little bit of know how.

Oi! Bloc Party are cracking, even minus Burnout.

With the news about music before GTA IV came out, it sounded like one of the radio station would be a real radio station streamed from the net. Maybe that will be something that will happen in a future GTA/Saints Row or other sandbox game.

However, with last.fm coming to xbox, maybe you can listen to that while playing any game the same way you can listen to your own choice of music on the hard drive or streaming from your pc.

Theres only one album worth listening to of Bloc Partys and thats their debut album, Silent Alarm.

Bloc Party were the band of 2005.

Weekend in the City was weaker, Intimacy is fantastic though.

Midnight Club LA works for me (you might have found that already), but I always skip Mercury by Bloc Party because it irritates the **** out of me.

    Advisory – I am 40+.

You are quite the world traveler these days.

Maybe it’s time you gave Burnout Paradise another try. In a few days, Big Surf Island opens up and it may be more your speed maybe.

Or you could wait until Split Second comes out. It’s racing, but with explosions which you trigger during the race. Lots of high octane and adrenaline fun there.

No, no they are not… but different strokes for different folks eh.

I traded in paradise so not going to be going back there sadly. However I am always game for new ideas, but explosions haven’t always worked with racing in the past, so I will have to wait and see on that one.

Forza 3 is looking pretty sweet.
