A very intelligent man called Pablo Picasso once said ‘Every element of creation is first an act of destruction’ and who can argue with one of the most innovative forces in the artistic world? As gamers we are all familiar with the idea of being confined (albeit enjoyably) within preset environments, painstakingly created and designed for us to take pleasure in. However, the team over at THQ has decided it’s about time to once again rough things up a little bit and this time, they really mean it. Their latest title, Red Faction: Guerrilla, offers gamers the chance to take real control of their environments and carve them into tactical platforms for combat as players progress through the game.

To work along side the obliterating force in every corner, gameplay will now perform from a third person perspective, rather than first as featured in previous Red Faction titles, allowing players to focus on the entire field of operation rather than combat alone. With the primary gameplay objective being to take down anything and everything in your way, the new and improved Geo-Mod 2.0 engine is utilised to its fullest, allowing the anarchist in all of us to take down (or rebuild) any environment as we see fit.

‘Red Faction: Guerrilla features – Open World Guerrilla Warfare leaving it up to you to decide when, where and how to battle; Strategic Destruction to permanently modify the game environment and use destruction to your tactical advantage; Evolving and Emergent Gameplay where you can mix gameplay styles, vehicles and weapons; an epic Sci-Fi setting allowing you to explore the unforgiving Martian landscape and lastly Multiplayer Combat – there is nowhere to hide when you put your guerrilla warfare skills to the test in a variety of highly destructive multiplayer combat modes. Set 50 years after the climatic events of the original Red Faction, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to take the role of insurgent fighter, Alec Mason, with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defence Force.’

While exploring the surface of Mars, players can choose to annihilate both the landscape and their enemies with a variety of guns, gadgets and vehicles in their battle against the now corrupt Earth Defence Force, including equippable backpacks providing bonus abilities for the protagonist.
