Yup, we’ve passed the nine hour mark (by all of two minutes as I sit here typing this). The troublesome sun has moved on, and it’s a glorious evening in Glasgow. Inside the Esc gaming centre things are getting heated, in more ways than one.
It’s toasty warm in here, so we have fans blowing on the team members to keep them cool and alert – you know, the equivalent of cracking the window of your car as you drive down the motorway.
The guys are still working through the freeburn challenges and, as time progresses, they’re actually growing into a cohesive unit – each on hand to talk a colleague through a route if they run into difficulty, and rib them mercilessly if they mess up. We’re also racking up a few spectators now, watching the team burn into the evening.
There has been some drama over the last couple of hours – Shaz has had one or two connection problems but nothing that Team Ready Up can’t handle. Both Ant and John sprung into action like the finely coiled tech-heads they are and everything was back in business within minutes. That’s Ready Up for you – we make a drama into a piffling nothingness!
I have to say that everyone here, both staff and customers, are absolutely awesome and really friendly – everyone’s getting in on the action in one way or another. Some are jumping on the machine we have set up here for spectators, while others are taking the backseat driving approach and just shouting directions at the team. I, for my part, have chosen the back seat driving option but I hope to jump on the spare machine and get in a bit of play on burnout – maybe, if I’m feeling brave, another 24 minutes.
And believe me, nothing is better than sitting writing a blog while the Final Countdown blares out on the sound system, accompanied by the vocal stylings of the Guiness World Record adjudicators.
Priceless.
