I am currently one of the vast and ever growing legions of unemployed this country now has. The country’s financial status is dire, and for one reason or another, people of all walks of life are becoming jobless. Naturally, with so many people out of work, open positions are few, far between, and filled by a very lucky one or two of a plethora of applicants. People are having to resort to all sorts of ways of getting cash.
Some are declaring bankruptcy, many are filing for IVAs, some can claim benefits, but most, if not all, are having to sell the bulk of their possessions.
As someone who loves my games and my consoles an abnormal amount, I’ve clung with dear life to my stash. Everything else has gone; cross trainer – sold. Wii Fit – sold. Exercise bike – sold. Guitar – on its way out. I’ve flogged as much as I possibly can, and now, I’m left with a horrible choice.
Something’s gotta give, and I think it’s gonna have to be a console. In an involuntary battle of the machines I’m trying to decide which one’s gotta go first.
Will it be the Wii? While it’s no heavyweight technically, with its wide range of fun and quirky games this one’s great fun to have around. A real all-rounder everyone can enjoy, nice aesthetics, intuitive (if a bit glitchy) controls, and a warm blue glow which some may recall me being quite fond of (you don’t need an extra Wii-mote for Cooking Mama by the way, oh, and it’s awesome!). Though technically, this one’s not completely mine. Therefore I think that one might have to stay.
What about the PS3? This is my baby, I traded in pretty much everything I owned for that beauty, and I love it to bits. While my catalogue of games has diminished somewhat, I still have a few classics I’ll never get bored of, and its future prospects are wonderful. Not to mention, with an integrated Blu-Ray player it doubles up nicely. Good looks, brains, wonderful handling, this machine’s got it all. Can I really let it go?
How about the 360? The backbone of my gaming. This is what all my friends have, the online is awesome and most releases come out on this. While it’s not going to be making any great leaps tech-wise, there’s still plenty of life left in this machine. Not to mention I’ve been spending more and more time on it lately, I completed Tomb Raider Underworld last week and I’m halfway through Anniversary. That’s not the half of it though, I have so many unplayed games for this machine I think I’d be stupid to let it go.
Surely not my DS… as my most used console, I would be devastated to see this one go. I took a job I absolutely detested to get the money for it. Again, my catalogue of games has diminished a lot, but I still have some games I play over and over again. I take my DS everywhere with me, and with my new year’s resolutions still in motion it would hinder my progress to get rid of it.
This is where I am, waging a war of consoles. With so many good points to each and every one it’s a really tough call. As I wipe a tear from my eye, I mourn the loss of whichever one’ll have to go. I hate to pit my babies against each other like this, I can see their fear in their various glowing lights. I can only hope, that one day I can repurchase. Though somehow, I just don’t think it’ll be the same.
