Something’s Gotta Give

I am currently one of the vast and ever growing legions of unemployed this country now has. The country’s financial status is dire, and for one reason or another, people of all walks of life are becoming jobless. Naturally, with so many people out of work, open positions are few, far between, and filled by a very lucky one or two of a plethora of applicants. People are having to resort to all sorts of ways of getting cash.

Some are declaring bankruptcy, many are filing for IVAs, some can claim benefits, but most, if not all, are having to sell the bulk of their possessions.

As someone who loves my games and my consoles an abnormal amount, I’ve clung with dear life to my stash. Everything else has gone; cross trainer – sold. Wii Fit – sold. Exercise bike – sold. Guitar – on its way out. I’ve flogged as much as I possibly can, and now, I’m left with a horrible choice.

Something’s gotta give, and I think it’s gonna have to be a console. In an involuntary battle of the machines I’m trying to decide which one’s gotta go first.

Will it be the Wii? While it’s no heavyweight technically, with its wide range of fun and quirky games this one’s great fun to have around. A real all-rounder everyone can enjoy, nice aesthetics, intuitive (if a bit glitchy) controls, and a warm blue glow which some may recall me being quite fond of (you don’t need an extra Wii-mote for Cooking Mama by the way, oh, and it’s awesome!). Though technically, this one’s not completely mine. Therefore I think that one might have to stay.

What about the PS3? This is my baby, I traded in pretty much everything I owned for that beauty, and I love it to bits. While my catalogue of games has diminished somewhat, I still have a few classics I’ll never get bored of, and its future prospects are wonderful. Not to mention, with an integrated Blu-Ray player it doubles up nicely. Good looks, brains, wonderful handling, this machine’s got it all. Can I really let it go?

How about the 360? The backbone of my gaming. This is what all my friends have, the online is awesome and most releases come out on this. While it’s not going to be making any great leaps tech-wise, there’s still plenty of life left in this machine. Not to mention I’ve been spending more and more time on it lately, I completed Tomb Raider Underworld last week and I’m halfway through Anniversary. That’s not the half of it though, I have so many unplayed games for this machine I think I’d be stupid to let it go.

Surely not my DS… as my most used console, I would be devastated to see this one go. I took a job I absolutely detested to get the money for it. Again, my catalogue of games has diminished a lot, but I still have some games I play over and over again. I take my DS everywhere with me, and with my new year’s resolutions still in motion it would hinder my progress to get rid of it.

This is where I am, waging a war of consoles. With so many good points to each and every one it’s a really tough call. As I wipe a tear from my eye, I mourn the loss of whichever one’ll have to go. I hate to pit my babies against each other like this, I can see their fear in their various glowing lights. I can only hope, that one day I can repurchase. Though somehow, I just don’t think it’ll be the same.

I still have my job (touch wood) but i’m feeling the crunch of high rent, expensive bills and all that stuff.
I’m tempted to sell my Wii, ive not even had it a year but it doesnt get the use it deserves ๐Ÿ™

I have also considered selling stuff for extra cash though I’m not yet in the situation in which you have unfortunately found yourself yet. I’m truly sorry that you’re going through this…I don’t think I know one person who isn’t struggling at the moment ๐Ÿ™

    Sell the Wii… ;D

    :'( *sniffs*

But can’t you just promise to give up eating or something? If you took cold showers and never left the house and let scientists do those weird medical experiments on you and everything, surely you’d be able to keep them?

:'( It’s all so very sad.

Sounds like a tough call I’d hate to make that decision…I’d say if you have to absolutely have to do it then sell off the PS3…you’ll get the most cash for it all but a couple of the games you can get for the xbox without getting more hardware.

In terms of the job how abut fleeing the country? Working for me.

Sell the PS3. It’ll generate the most cash and you can replace it when Sony eventually drop the price.

Just don’t sell anything hard to obtain. During tough times I sold a bunch of stuff including a Multimega, a one-off (ok, maybe three-off) Atari 2600 retail display unit and various other bits (PC Engine stuff, various rare games) and to buy them all up again now would cost me a small fortune.

Have you considered selling organs on the black market? You can survive with only one kidney, you know.

Not going to be flippant, I’m afraid.

Tough decision! If you’re really desperate, sell the lot except the DS (as you use it most). Now keep the unplayed games for the 360 and get an arcade version of it; that’s pretty cheap, isn’t it?

Selling organs? I’d rather do that than sell a console.

After all, I can sell one heart and still live with just the other, right?

Yup. And pieces of your brain too.

    Man that sucks ๐Ÿ™

I know you’ve probably looked into all this yourself, and me suggesting this is just you hearing the same thing for the hundredth time ( :3 sorry!) but isn’t there any benefits you could get?

I’m not sure what things are like where you live, but I know up here housing benefit/jobseekers allowance isnt *theoretically* too hard to get…

Anyways, I’m really sorry to hear that… I can’t imagine having to try to pick a console to get rid of; I guess if it was me it would be PSP first, then PS3, then Wii, then DS, then 360 – but there isn’t one of them without a few games I’d really really miss.

(I vote PS3, but that’s just a matter of personal taste. Or possibly – whichever console you have the least saved-stuff-that-matters on it)

Sorry to hear that a console may have to go, such a terrible situation to be for it to come to that. Heopfully, there is a turnaround point which will make everything better and still be able to fulfil your gaming needs.

Snozzeltoff – keep the Wii as long as you can, there’s some awesome stuff coming soon, it’ll get more use! <3
Lorna – Thanks for your kind wishes ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone is in the same boat at the moment, and it’s hard. But at least we have each other! ๐Ÿ˜€
Darach – I’ve already pretty much given up eating, but the second idea sounds like a plan!! ๐Ÿ˜€
Laura – S’true! And I love my bun and want to give him/her the world. I’m so soft!
Andy – Fleeing the country would be nice, somewhere hot methinks? ;D
Jay – That’s sound advice ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve sold a couple of things I won’t get back and regretted it. It’s not good. One kidney you say? Hmm! Another plan!
Michael – You are right! There *should* be some hope for me soon providing all goes to plan though… more bloggings about it later in the month!
Tony – Aww, I already sold one of ’em! Though I hear you can slice of 80% of your liver and it’ll regrow. Natural crop that! ;D
Darach – Ohhh, the brains too far. I love my grey matter more than my machines, I’m afraid!
GamerGeekGirl – Nah, no benefits for me sadly! But there is light at the end of the tunnel for me now (more news later this month!). It’ll probably be the 360 I’ll sell… I still have PS2 games I love playing!
The Rook – I think your hope is well placed ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope is on the horizon for me (and maybe my consoles too!) More news later in the month!

News later in the month??? Are you planning on taking photos at the meet and then blackmailing the relevant parties??? A cunning plan, just don’t get caught in a compromising position yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚
