Before Thursday, I hadn’t heard those words in a very long time.
I’d organised to play Left 4 Dead with Tony (and whomever else wanted to play) on Thursday night in our usual 10pm slot. However when I logged on, he was already playing with a few other Ready-Up stalwarts and I consequently received the classic voice message: “I’m sorry, the room is full”.
As it turned out by 10.30pm, we were both collecting some achievements in Craicdown [sic] but it made me reflect on the length of time it had been since I couldn’t join a room because I was playing a popular game. My gaming habits lean towards purchasing very few games at the point of release – I tend to be an early adopter with technology but not with games so full rooms aren’t normally a problem I run into. Only last week I tried to play Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 online and in the 30 minutes I spent waiting in a room for anyone to join I realised that just because people still own the game, it doesn’t mean they’re still playing it.
I appreciate that Left 4 Dead wasn’t released that long ago but it seems to have had a resurgence in my gaming circle since Tony and I have picked it up. Delusions of grandeur aside, it is great fun but I’ve already had it a week and only played once! Still, I don’t mind waiting – as a gamer that still owns Perfect Dark Zero, there will definitely come a time where finding the right number of people to play with online won’t be an issue.
