Since getting an Elite at Xmas to replace my lifeless Premium, my gaming time is being maximised to the fullest. Whereas before, a quick thirty minutes of free time would be spent watching random YouTube videos and just general pottering around. All that’s changed now, as I’m finding myself taking advantage of those spare moments, be it for a quick few turns of Civilization Revolution, hitting the next checkpoint in Gears or driving around in Banjo like a lunatic.
It’s great fun, but (and there’s always a but) it does come at a cost. Since emergence day (me unwrapping my fresh Elite) I’ve found myself neglecting my other gaming passion… MMOs. Currently I reside in World of Warcraft, but despite its recent expansion that brought with it lots of tasty content I now find myself only logging in once or twice a week, whereas before it would be considerably more.

Deep down I think my subconscious has something to do with this, but being honest, I’m not quite sure if I’m fully happy with the way things are panning out. I do miss my MMO gaming but my problem always occurred when I started getting into a game. I’d more often than not spend more time there than I should, thus placing neglect on my other gaming duties, such as taking over the world in Civilization.
On the flip side of the coin the time I spend in the MMO fantasy world is always enjoyable, you get a good guild / clan of friends and every night is like going to the pub, except smoking is allowed and you don’t have to worry too much about toilet etiquette.
I’ve always been easily swayed by MMOGs, I don’t know what it is that does it, be it the social side of things or perhaps the sense of “my character rocks” you get when you find some epic new gear or accomplish something that not many have.
The console life is not to be ignored though, and I’ve learnt from past mistakes not to neglect it too much or I end up with a back catalogue longer than a queue outside the next high street retailer to enter administration.
Balance is the key but whether or not I can keep it up I don’t know. One thing is for sure though, I’ve never been more spoilt for choice in terms of raw gaming pleasure than I am now, so long may this continue.

This is why I’ve never delved into them…there simply isn’t enough time :(

I’ve always been scared of jumping into an MMO because I somehow feel I’m ripping myself off by not playing it enough…
This is very dangerous for my studies.
