‘Do you think sending flowers and chocolate will help?’

Yes, yes I do, that is how I got into Ready Up. All flowers and chocolates should be sent to: Eleanor, 1 Eleanor Street, Ireland.

Disclaimer: Sending flowers to Eleanor, 1 Eleanor Street, Ireland does not help you to get a place on Ready Up, it simply means Eleanor will be nicer to you. This may not be any kind of plus in any way……

I wish I could apply, but since I live all the way out here in Hawaii, it would be kind of difficult to fly back and forth between here and the UK for the press events and such.

does age matter if you apply to be a reviewer? i’m confused lol

  32. Tony avatar

There’s no specific lower limit, but you need to be old enough to go to events on your own (although usually more than one person attends each event), and of course you have to be able to write!

  33. Connor R avatar
    Connor R

If age doesn’t matter then I would like to put my name forward I’m 15 and I love gaming and I love telling people about games what the highlights about it are. I have a review group on Bebo.com I’d think it would be a good experience to become a reviewer on a games website.

howdy, i got a couple of challenging questions, what is the actual email adress that we have to send it to as it’s not that clear and if we don’t want to attend events that are very far away from where i live can i decline ??? by the way i’m 15 and a keen writer!

I think this role would suit me because I have already written a novel. Not exactly world acclaimed yet but done none the less, it should put me in good sted for the grammer side of things at least. I also love my consoles big time. I’m one of those people who comes in from work and puts the PS3 on right away, sad but true. Also playing consoles is something I really enjoy so passionate writing wouldn’t be a problem. mwuhahaha! tbh, i’m not being snide, just pointing things out, predominantly that personal editing is one thing that’s required when doing journalism. but, i don’t think it really makes a difference on a message board! and anyways, i would’ve thought that going off to do that all important collage (did you mean college?) might inevitably delay even the best of us, but you, no, you’re a winner. ahh i’ll stop as its really way too easy!

simply because its easier, i’m not going to apply. despite the opportunities that it will no doubt give the successful applicant, i believe that personal blogging would achieve the same affect as far as developing your own writing style, whilst actually going to university and day-to-day work shadowing would offer more to improve your employability. but, good luck to the person that does get it

I’m desperately trying to get into the gaming industry and have been ever since I was small; competing in gaming competitions etc. Seeing this advertised on the XBox dashboard literally had me jumping for joy! I have recently written a review for the game ‘Spore’, but unfortunately it did not get published as I don’t have the experience needed for most places.
I do not only write reviews but scripts as well! I have been writing my own scripts for my own games for a couple of years now and my drawer is getting pretty heavy!

Hi people my name is pashants, been a gamer ever since i was able to understand how to play games lol… ‘started with atari’, only back then i played games for what they were, where as now i see planing an imagination which has evolved dramatically visually just over a few years. Now as a gamer i have come to realize that creativity is also a main feature an pleasing fans is designers and producers main role, so if I’m able to have a certified blog, attend press meetings not only will i be gathering details and gaining precise information to feed to general gamers, but in spear I’d also be in an advantageous spot of my own career which would enable me to understand more about what they have planed and share some of my ideas with them…. ”what can i say, thats everyones dream right” but hey! becoming a journalist is the beginning. And if anyone wants to know more about me! my name as stated is pashants, i love art, games, an creating new things,.. want more ‘ really oh your making me blush’ well x-box live, you’ll find me as pashants also, leader an founder of ki-se-ki, mainly find us kickin butts in naruto tbb, if you have skills in shoot’em’ups, fighting, get back to me an you can enroll for a position within my organisation, oh and for employers yes im creative and am willing to put time in and marry my abilities to your domain.

One thing I must say is that I think many of the users here might do well to check their grammar and spelling, or at the very least make an attempt at writing posts in a legible manner. Yes, this comments section is not how the competition winner will be picked; however, I think sound use of the English language should be employed when discussing the topic of a writing position. Users are stating they see this as a tough position to win- their sole reasoning for this being the comments being left. This is almost the antithesis of what comes to my mind by that rationale. Only a handful of comments have any semblance of the level of language skill required, let alone shrewd content material. This is not meant to come off as bombastic, I just felt something needed to be said and I hope others will agree.

    For the message above:
As many will possibly agree with your views with regard to the grammar issues, Many may also feel that we are not in the position nor have the authority to pass judgement. I feel that there is a very vast difference between criticism and that which could be deemed as constructive.I also feel that you have used the opportunity to showcase your grammar and vocabulary whilst pointing out others grammatical errors. A little bit of humbleness can go a long way .

Jonathan and Luke.. neither of you are doing yourself any favours here, and that goes for everyone else whos made snide comments in the last 90 odd we have had.
Ready Up is a team and you guys seem distinctly lacking in that from your childish bickering. Fact of the matter is, you can have the best vocab in the entire world but if your attitude stinks you may aswell regress to running around like apes slinging poo at each other.. mm kay?
    Now enough of this sillyness.

I am looking forward to meeting our newest n00b when they are picked, and I want to thank Dan and especially Kirsten for the masses of effort that have gone into this recruiting drive.

I love being a part of ready up and I hope whoever gets picked will love it too.. oh and you have to come to the meet, I need at least one other person to do that indoor bungie jump thing with..

Thanks for your response Luke. With regards to being in a position to pass judgment on others language ability, I believe the English language and its proper use is in fact empirical, therefore no subjectivity arises, ergo no one need judge. To your second point I fail to see how I was anything but constructive: I outlined the problem (grammar and spelling) and the solution was self evident (write as though you were a writer on this blog). As for your observation on my highfalutin use of the English language I was under the impression that I was in the company of fellow budding writers. Also why should I dumb down my prose? Finally, concerning my apparent high order use of grammar: what would you have me do? Write in broken syntax filled with an arbitrary use of capital letters? Very much a moot point I believe there. Just for the record I’m not instigating any sort of quarrel here, I merely feel strongly about correct use of language, especially in this context.

    To city

At no point have i made snide comments and i do not consider what have i pointed out to be childish bickering on my part. you have pointed out that individuals have made snide comments and that it wasnt acceptable. Isnt that what i was trying to point out. Also with regard to working well as part of a team i believe that every individual within a working team needs to have an individual voice with the right to expression. I dont feel as though myself and johnathon have had any form of quarrel , merely a discussion with difference of opinions. I really cannot understand why you would find my post offensive.

Dearest Luke. A very good point, well made there sir. I am in complete agreement, a hearty intellectual debate is all that was ignited. Thank you once again for your response, it’s refreshing to see a spark of thoughtful discourse punctuating this painful waiting period!

  101. Michael avatar

If you’re both speaking so highly about grammar, I suggest you look over your posts again fellas. Actually, just Luke; sorry mate.

Does “hearty intellectual debate” include insulting those with arguably less ability? I think that’s what City was driving at; your apparent haughtiness. And, of course, what ultimately matters is not the commments people leave here but what they say in their applications. Isn’t it?

I think at this point, pretty much everyone who’s applied is scraping the bottom of the barrel to make themselves stand out from the huge crowd of applicants. πŸ˜‰

FAO CITY: I hate to be a downer. But if you’re talking about the giant bunjie inside The Troc – it’s been gone for years. πŸ™

Yeah I’m afraid the huge one is gone – all that is left is one of those ones where you’re basically tied to a trampoline.

But there’s new Mario Kart machines, and House Of The Dead 4. We’ll get you through this. πŸ™‚

Yes Michael my last post may have been slightly hyperbolic but in reference to insulting others, that really was not my modus operandi. Apologies if it came off in that way. To be honest I’ve found that you can never give advice without treading on a few fingers along the way!

Sorry I think my last post was drowned out by the trolls =P

Does anyone know how much longer applications will be open for? πŸ™‚ Thanks!

  110. Michael avatar

Hmm, I guess you’re right Luke… except for “He who knows not that he knows not, he is a fool – shun him”. Sounds like you’re saying those who don’t even know their grammar is poor should be, erm, shunned. No?

I think it’s open for the remainder of the month, Shimmer. Still working on it, are you?

I really cannot understand how my post Which was sent with the best intentions ,which was merely outlining that individuals were resorting to character assassination of fellow applicants on many occasions on this board could be misunderstood. I have not on any occasion condemned poor grammar or insulted any individual. If i have caused offence to anybody i apologise , but i really cannot see how i would have. I have become a little shocked at how out of hand this debate has gotten.I would like to respectfully withdraw my application and wish all aplicants the best of luck and the winner the very best for the future.I hope there are no hard feelings between myself the ready up team or other users.

Lmao Im so sorry michael this is the correct
β€œHe who knows that he knows not, he is a fool – shun him.”
β€œHe who knows not, and knows that he knows not, he is simple – teach him.”
β€œHe who knows, and knows not that he knows, he is asleep – wake him.”

  115. Michael avatar

Hmm, well, I suppose the best thing is to just break down what’s in the blog as it applies to you. And, as has been made quite ridiculously evident, good grammar and spelling are uber-important!

    Don’t stress.

I’ll have to check with the boss, but I believe the deadline is the end of the month.

As for age, that was covered before. As long as you are old enough to travel on your own to events you’ll be in with a chance. Although normally more than one of us goes to each event, although we rarely travel together.

Duncan, the ad has gone from the Dashboard purely because everything that goes up times out eventually.

    Regarding a closing date:

The advertising for a new Ready Up staff writer will appear in several publications throughout the country including newspapers and magazines. Once we have received the applications though those avenues we will announce our decision regarding applicants at that point. This will be some weeks from now.
