Hi everybody. My name is Tony, and I’m a LittleBigPlanetaholic.
So, after an infuriating (but fortunately reasonably short) delay, I finally found my copy of LittleBigPlanet in my mailbox upon returning from work on Tuesday night. Arriving as it did, in the middle of the biggest pile of releases seen in ages, it had to do a lot and do it well to keep my attention.
Fighting for space in my consoles drives currently are Far Cry 2 and Dead Space, and by next week they’ll be joined by Guitar Hero World Tour and (probably) Gears of War 2.
What can I say? It delivers. (which is more than can be said for the Home Delivery Network – but that’s a different story)

I’m completely and utterly hooked. How hooked?
Let me explain a custom to you in my house – by Wednesday night of every working week I’m pretty fed up with just sitting around the house each night, and I want to go out. This has become a ritual in my house that is as important to me as Mass is to a Catholic. Nothing interferes with Pub Night. The first rule of Pub Night is – you must go to the pub on Pub Night. The second rule of Pub Night is… well you get the idea.
Imagine my surprise then, upon pausing part-way through creating a simple level on LittleBigPlanet, to find that it was 11pm. On Pub Night. Pub Night was lost – and all because of Sackboy and his loveable ways! More specifically, though, the Create section of LBP’s motto: Play, Create, Share.
As someone who grew up with Lego, Meccano and later in life bought The 3D Construction Kit for PC with his Christmas money (it cost £60 in 1991 – ouch!), I’ve always been into building and creating things, but I can’t remember anything grabbing me in quite the same way as this. The tools are so simple to use, but the sheer amount of things you can do with them in combination are absolutely staggering. It’s a massive cliché, but you really are only limited by your imagination – and I love that.

The level I’ve been painstakingly creating is based on the classic ball bearing in a wooden maze puzzle, where you have to get the ball out of the maze to continue. It’s simple, but it’s proving to be a good way to get the hang of the controls, and I’ve tweaked it over and over again as I compulsively want to play and improve it.
In fact, stopping playing LBP for long enough to write this is killing me, and I’m starting to get the shakes, so I must return (to the garden). It’s Friday, and I’ve arranged to meet an old friend of mine in town tonight for a drink. All I can say is, he had better hope for a powercut or it might be a lonely drink for him…

Little Big Planet on the PSP…it’s got to happen at some point and when it does we can get drunk at the pub while keeping the addiction going.
I really want this, and may just have to hold back on some Xmas presents so I can go for the double combo of a PS3 and nice HD TV.

I’m Catholic and I haven’t been to Mass in years… except, y’know, wedding and funeral ones.
Just remember to not forget to eat and that!
