At some point this week I expect to receive a copy of Warhammer Online in the post. On that day I will begin a new adventure, an adventure into a land of war and, I suspect, hammers. I would class myself as a casual MMO player having put many hours into Guild Wars and I have just recently hit Lv 30 in World of Warcraft. I think I found WoW harder to progress in than most players, getting my hunter to from 15 to 30 took a concerted effort on my part. I fear that the promise of my first mount spurred me on but having now got my awesome new kitty mount it’s time for a break. My Xbox is calling me back. I fully intend to return to WoW, if only to pay back the 15 gold loan I borrowed from my very generous guild’s bank.
So I thought to myself, what should I do during this break from Azeroth? I still feel the urge to level and collect. Warhammer Online is the obvious answer. It’s a fresh new world that shouldn’t feel as daunting as WoW but without Thottbot and Wowhead to back me up I’ll have to find my own way through the world with a bunch of other n00bs. I’ll, of course, pick my class and skills based on what I think ‘looks cool’.
I’ve deliberately not done much research into the game and I avoided the beta. With this series of blogs in mind I enter with no preconceptions and no plan. Look out for diary entry #1 on Monday.
As I walk through the valley of the shadow of Reikland, I fear no Greenskins nor Dark Elves. But those Chaos dudes are kinda scary looking!
