Army of EU?

I really can’t let this go, one of the greatest mistakes ever made in the world of online multi-player gaming, it is truly shocking.  But first let me explain, Army of Two was a game that I was quite looking forward to since last year and when it was pushed back a few times it wasn’t looking good.  Come this week and I picked up the game at last and was pleasantly surprised, it looks good and plays pretty damn well and that is only single player.  Cut to the multi-player and glad to report it also plays good, two player co-op and four player versus.  It is an EA game so as can be expected there are a few drop-offs and the lobby is awful-having to re-invite everyone, but nothing that spoils it too much.

You may be thinking at this point that this should be in the reviews section but no! The biggest sin ever put in a video game became apparent last night.  one of my American friends asked me,

“You got Army of Two?”

“Yup, it’s real good,”

“Uh-huh, wanna try co-op?”

“Oh have you not tried it yet? Give me a minute and I’ll send you an invite.”

One minute passes silently, then his disgruntled voice pipes up,

“This shit is whacked man, when I try to accept your invite is says-“please insert Army of Two EU disc.”….!”

Did you spot it?  In their infinite wisdom Electronic Arts have decided to make the game multiplayerable only in the region of the disc you have, EU, North America etc so if you have friends around the world you can’t play them at Army of Two!

Now I see why this move has been done, to try and keep the lag to a minimum in what is essentially a two player game where timing and speed are important, but this is unforgivable.  As far as I know there is no mention on the box or the manual of this faux-pas so do we have reason to seek compensation from EA?  It wont stop me playing the game but it is really annoying, lets hope this isn’t the start of something……but mind you gaming without screeching Americans………maybe EA have something here!
